Layering with a purpose

By Theresa Calderini on May 12th, 2014 »

Just a quick post today to show you a few cards & tags I made recently! I started off with the tag which was used to teach other ladies at a local Scrap booking crop which raises money for missions. I do this event twice a year and each time I try to raise the bar on my creations for the ladies to do as Make-it-take-its. I always chuckle because the ladies look at what I’ve made and always say they wish they could be so creative and by the end of their time with me they have been creative by making it!

I’m surrounded by beautifully creative ladies who inspire me!

Many of my recent creations have involved layering, I think I’m in a “phase” of sorts, but if it’s a phase, I hope it lasts for a while because I’m really enjoying it!

After making the tag I made several cards, the only difference in them is their sentiments and the flowers. I love the large spiral flowers but switched to the Anemone flower by Spellbinders so that my card was flatter and could be mailed easier. When I am layering, I die cut and punch lots of different shapes / designs an then play with their placement. I move things around until I like the look of them and then use my hot glue gun and tapes to secure everything into place. Using a lot of white elements with a burst of color is exciting for me, I believe the color causes the eye to focus while also taking in the beauty of the rest of the card!

These cards were shaped differently than my usual ones (3 1/4″ x 6″) so I made the matching envelopes using my envelope score board. I think I’ve finally gotten comfortable with that tool, but it took me a while! I make most of my own envelopes now, not really because of cost, but more because a homemade card with its own handmade envelope is just a nice thing!

Off to continue work on the studio…..I’m in “organize” mode! What a task this is but well worth it. I’ve discovered a few things I had misplaced which makes it a happy day for me!

I am loving how you used the lattice die on this! The pop of red ribbon was a great idea. I’m afraid to layer – maybe a video?

Loved the beauty of your tags & cards. Know what you mean about the creativity of others with whom we are able to work. I have 7 ladies who come to my home and make cards to send to friends & family. 5 have been coming twice a month for 2 years (part time because they are snow birds, winter residents here in FL, but go back to their northern home the remainder of the year). I work with 6 others in my church 18 miles away in Venice, FL. They have been working about 8 months and are a delight, also.
